This post was written as part of Julia’s 100 word challenge. It’s set a few years after another piece I wrote called Laugh Don’t Cry.
“It’s weird being back. I haven’t been in this house since…well since Dad’s funeral.”
Luisa looked up from her magazine. “Amy! That was 10 years ago. Haven’t you visited Mom once in all that time?”
“Good Lord no! What was the point? She had nothing I needed. Did you come?”
“I always meant to, but …you know how it is. I was too busy. And I knew Charlotte was coming, so…”
The solicitor cleared his throat. “Your mother, Elsa May Stephens, left you both something in her will… £1000 for each visit you made her in the last 10 years.”

The voices you capture are so true. Our lives fill up so quickly. I like that Luisa and Amy are to blame…but also, not. Their stance remains sympathetic. Even if they end up not getting what they want. 😉
